22-04-2013			Pre-production Our initial idea was to create a religious concept for our narrative. We developed the idea further by studying different types of ways that religion disagrees with criminal activities, and how it can affect your faith.  We then decided to create the main point of the film, which is that people should not be regarded by their religion, but rather who they are; since depending on the sort of person you are you can still become influenced by money and the people around you. Our short film is inspired by the film ‘Fish Tank’ and also the music video of the artist K Koke ‘Turn Back’.
24-04-2013			After discussing our ideas, we successfully developed our idea further by introducing characters and developing the scenes of our short film. We constructed a plot that the group agreed on. On this day we also managed to assign the paper work, and these are the following roles that were assigned: Idris:  Risk assessment, Production Schedule, Crew List Ousama: Director, Editor, Writer and Actor Omid: Inspiration Board, DA’1st Ash: Storyboard, cue sheet, equipment list and cinematographer Bilal: Character Synopsis and Cast list Priscenya: Actress
24-04-2013			The group then began to complete the paper-work. We made the risk assessment including all of the possible risks which might occur during the recordings.
29-04-2013			The group then made a production schedule, and also collected the contact information of the crews phone numbers and emails. In our production we had to switch roles for the writer since the original person who was assigned to the task couldn't complete it in time. So Ousama had to adopt the role and create the screenplay of the scenes.
01-05-2013			Recording On this day we began to record the outside scenes for our short film. Ash the cameraman, managed to capture the footage of the scenes using the screenplay as the guide. Throughout this day we managed to record all the outside scenes.
02-05-2013			On this day Ousama and Priscenya came back to the college in order to finish the last scene of when she leaves the house. They also had to get permission to use the studio.  The re-recording of the audio for the scenes also took place.
03-04-2013			Post Production After finishing all of our paper work, Ousama edited the short film on Sony Vegas Pro. We chose to use Sony Vegas Pro to edit the short film because it allows us to edit quickly and to add colour grading. He also used Audacity to sound mix the audio, because it was too noisy.
15-05-2013			Reviewing Work On this day the group had to go over the work we had done, checking that enough content was in them. Idris had to add more to the Risk Assessment and Ash had to rewrite the Call Sheet. The work was also reviewed by Ousama, to check that all the content was valid and by making sure it was up to standard.
20-05-2013			Evaluation After we completed all of our production and pre-production work, we had to reflect on what our roles were and how we developed our ideas in detail, how we feel the production stages went, the strengths and weaknesses of our video, and if we thought our production succeeded our expectations.

Characters Synopsis

Sammia:

Age: 18

Ethnicity: Lebanese

Sammia is an average teenage girl residing in London, growing up in a strict and religious household (Muslim Sunni.) She doesn't have the best of friends, which probably explains why she spends her time around the wrong type of people. She is good at lying and sneaking around on a low profile, to disguise her secret acts against what her religion believes. Her weaknesses are that she is gullible, and she is easily brainwashed into doing things which she shouldn't as well as the fact that she is an attitude problem. She has black hair, dark brown eyes, and she is about 5ft5. She is quite a heavy smoker, which she keeps quiet to her family about, but not to her friends.

Ousamma:
Age: 18
Ethnicity: Moroccan

Ousamma is an average teenage boy living in a rough part of London. He drug deals due to an influence of being involved by gangs, and has recently moved in with his uncle due to accidents involving the police in his home area. Gang influences have lead him to leave school at the age of 16, which has also affected his education. He is able to hide his emotions and covers it up with a confidence, making him seem careless and unable to take situations seriously. His weakness are that he is not intellectual, but instead mentally caught up with the wrong side of society. He has black hair and brown eyes and is about 6ft in height, with a well built body structure. His hobbies include playing football, causing havoc with his friends, getting drunk and doing anything for amusement.

Sammia's mother and father are parents of three, of whom are very religious regarding the laws of Islam. Sammia's older brother follows Islam more strongly than her, and is curious of her actions. Her parents are also very cautious of what she does, but do not have an inkling of the scenarios that she is involved in (unlike her brother, who begins to).

Ethnicity: Mauritian

He is highly respected in the drug deal business, and is known in the area to be someone who shouldn't be messed with. His strengths include that he is intelligently deceiving which allows him to escape the hands of the law and get away with any of his illegal actions, but his weaknesses are not really his characteristics, but rather how his reputation affects him, for he is not able to get along with other teenagers without them having fear of him. Physically he is tall and slim, around 6'4ft, with brown eyes and curly black hair.

Whilst thinking of ideas for the theme of our short film, we decided that we needed that we needed to work outside of class, sheerly because of the congested atmosphere of the bustling classroom. We then decided that the best method of perceiving our thoughts to one another was to gather our collective views and opinions and convey them so that we could get a general overview of the ideas we had to choose from.

Whilst consulting our thoughts, Ash had brought to our attention of a music video by K Koke Ft. Maverick Sabre called 'Turn Back' which had some similarities to the ideas we were attempting to interpret. It was the type of theme that we were trying to accentuate clearly so that the narrative of the scene was clear and fluently executed.

Another theme that we were attracted by was the scene in the short film 'Fish Tank' where the protagonist is dancing in the room by her self with the sunset gleaming out of the window ahead of her. We were influenced by the genre of Fish Tank which was presented as a social-drama although we wanted to collaborate with any further ideas the group was intending on sharing. Alas we had decided what genre our short film would be illustrated as, which would be a social-drama. Each member of the group were now flowing with ideas now that the genre would be a social-drama. We also felt that the genre of social-drama would be the genre that we could take advantage of the most, given the environment which we were situated in; in and around the City of Westminster College campus.

Clay Animation (Claymation) + Evaluation

Evaluation:

For this task, Sue had told the students to get into pairs and form 2's. Me and Bilal had then decided to pair up, seeing as we were sat beside each other. Since we weren't able to think of a idea for our Claymation whilst writing a list of possible ideas which we could revolve our Claymation around. We thought of idea that we would both enjoy such as using a humorous figure in the world of Football. We thought that creating the character, Mario Balotelli, would win a series of challenges and we would accentuate the extremely popular celebration after he been quoted saying "When I score, I don't celebrate because it's my job. When a Postman delivers letters, does he celebrate?"

We felt that this had inspired us to create something like this, but of our own individual style by using the morph of Mario Balotelli to contest in a series of challenges that we would eventually win and then celebrate in similar fashion to the video above.
`Some of the aspects of the video that we felt were disappointing were that I think that we had the opportunity to implement more frames-per-second (FPS) to make sure that the animation had ran smoother and clearer so the the story was narrated correctly. Overall ,my own interpretations of our Claymation design were that it had been less successful than I had originally thought it would have been of the length of the Claymation at being only 0:21 seconds. I felt that the length of it was a bit shorter than I had originally planned.

Analysis of Two Channel Ident (Unfinished)

1. Analyse two TV idents in detail (one must be E4 and the other can be of your choosing) and explain howthe ident reflects the tone and feel or the channels brand.


This E4 ident personifies the modern yet creative nature that E4 illustrates to attract its viewers. It applies a colourful and attractive take on channel idents that we aren't used to seeing on any other channel.
